The quote arrived showing a need to raise £7500 for the new uniforms, the target was set and the challenge was on. Fund raising started in earnest and just after Christmas, the committee decided to try and get a Lottery Grant to assist in the uniform purchase. Add to this the move from our old Band Room to a new home over Christmas and the task seemed impossible. However, by April we had raised enough cash to purchase the uniforms if a Lottery Grant was made and in May we heard the good news that we had been successful and a Lottery award of £5000 was made. The uniforms were ordered and the final fitting was made on 12th June, the results can be seen in the photo below and I think you will agree that the band looks very smart in its new attire.

After a year long campaign, the Beevor band has finally raised enough money to kit the senior band out with new uniforms. The project started last year when it was decided that the senior band needed an identity that showed the level at which they were playing. To date both the junior and senior bands play in a maroon blazer with the bands badge on the breast pocket. The organising committee decided to invite R & J Handley the famous tailors to give us some ideas and quote us a price to kit the band out with new uniforms. After consulting the band members and trying several designs, the band decided to opt for the design shown in the picture.
The new uniform is based on a black "military" style short jacket. this allows the band to take its own identity. The maroon trim on the lapels and sleeve cuffs is the same maroon as the old blazers (and the blazers still worn by the junior band) this maintains the link with the maroon which has always been associated with the Beevor Bands. The jacket is then finished off with gold epaulettes and decorative embroidery on the cuffs. The back of the jacket remains plain as requested by the majority of band members. There is no badge on the uniform and it is hoped that the design and colours will be enough to maintain recognition of the band. The new uniform has been finished off with the addition of black ties or bow ties which will be worn depending on the occasion.
Music Festival
Once again, both bands entered the music festival and received high marks for their performances. Members of the bands also made up half the entrants for the individual brass classes, with winners in every class.
For as long as anyone can remember, the Youth Band has supported the Boultham Summer Fair. In recognition of the Band's hard work and commitment over the years, the Boultham Summer Fair Committee named the Youth Band as one of their chosen charities last year, and donated half the Fair's profits to the Band. This has enabled us to buy a new student-sized euphonium and a single Eb bass. These instruments are designed for children and are much easier to play than the older, larger instruments we have in stock. We are very grateful for this donation to the Youth Band, and the insrtuments will be engraved as a permanent reminder of the Committee's generosity. Thanks also go to John Packer Ltd for supplying the instruments.
